Dr. David Hall first became interested in obesity surgery in 1979 and performed his first weight loss surgery in 1981. He has specialized in the treatment of obesity since 1984 and has performed more than 5,000 weight loss surgeries in that time. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and completed Medical School at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. His five-year General Surgery residency was completed in San Antonio in 1981. Scholarly honors that Dr. Hall received include: Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi Honor Societies and the CIBA Best Student Award in Medical School.
Dr. Hall is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His interest in weight loss surgery has led him to become a regular member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and to attend their international obesity symposia held each year in order to remain current on the latest research and surgical techniques. Dr. Hall is also a member of numerous professional organizations including: American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, The Aust Surgical Society, American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and the Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society.
With more than 26 years of surgery experience, Dr. Hall has become one of the most experienced obesity surgeons in the country with over 5,000 cases. That easily makes him the most experienced bariatric surgeon in West Texas. Dr. Hall has also demonstrated bariatric surgeries to interested surgeons from all over the U.S. and has personally taught many seminars on weight loss surgery.
Dr. Hall prides himself on his personal touch approach to obesity surgery. Spending several hours with patients prior to surgery, he painstakingly explains the surgery, patient expectations, outcomes, risks and alternatives. If necessary he even draws pictures to help the patients understand and ‘see’ what he is going to do in surgery. Dr. Hall and his staff visit each patient every day while they are in the hospital. A rarity for most doctors, Dr. Hall never makes plans to leave town with patients still in the hospital. He believes patients asked him to do the surgery and he personally intends to see them through their hospital stay.
Speaking of the personal side - - - When asked what things Dr. Hall enjoys when he’s not doing surgery, he says, “Cooking, reading, computers, and grandkids!” In fact, his family says he’s quite the gourmet chef!
